Building a Backstory: The Author

Who is the author? It’s time to get inside the writer’s head. Where did they come from? What inspirations impacted their writing? What other pieces or scripts have they written? Having a clear understanding of who the author is ties the whole bow together of what they’re trying to fully express in their script and in their life.

How is this beneficial to actors? An actor is the one telling the author’s story. Having the knowledge of what the writer is ultimately wanting to come across in their script (or scripts) is not only paying respect to the writing, but also making sure that the actor knows what to portray and the overall mindset to have when making choices.
