Making Choices During Your Audition

Is it ok to break the rules?

Have you ever had an audition where the filming instructions say to “not use props” but the scene calls for a specific prop of some sort? Often times actors are afraid that if they don’t follow the “rules” given to them in the breakdown exactly, they’ll take a risk that will ultimately cost them the job. Well Catapult client Alie Urquhart is here to debunk that stereotype, and to tell you that occasionally it’s okay to break those rules! Sometimes taking a risk and making that strong choice, despite what the breakdown might say, is exactly the thing that will make you stand out from the rest of the actors that are auditioning. It might even land you the job … in this case, it did!

Alie can be seen on Seasons 4 & 5 of House of Cards!
