Casey Nelson attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a B.A. in Dramatic Arts, and competed on the school’s Varsity Cross Country and Track Teams. Upon graduation, Casey moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. He landed roles in a number of high profile projects, including Michael Bay’s Transformers, The O.C., Criminal Minds, and Jane the Virgin, to name a few. In 2012, Casey began focusing more on writing and filmmaking as a whole.
Casey’s first short script Warehouse, was a finalist at Screencraft, and won a $5000 award for financing. Casey went on to direct the short, which premiered at The Palm Beach International Film Festival, and screened at festivals all across the country, including Beyond Comicon in Miami Beach. Soon after that, Casey went on to write and produce his first feature The Last Treasure Hunt, which was acquired by Sony and The Orchard, and was one of the top 25 most downloaded indie films on iTunes in 2016.
Casey made his feature directorial debut in 2022 with his film Black White and the Greys, which went on to win ten awards on the festival circuit, including the Audience Choice Award at the prestigious Sedona Film Festival. In total, Casey has written sixteen features, including The Perpetual State of Georgia, which was optioned by Richard Saperstein (Se7en, Hancock) at Bluestone Entertainment, and Birdie, a coming-of-age comedy, which Casey managed to attach Christian Slater and Jaeden Martel to in 2019, just before the pandemic.
Casey has three other projects in development, including his feature The Music Makers (Phiphen Pictures), a post-apocalyptic thriller, and The Straw Man (Aaron Kogan Management), an ’80s inspired horror film. His most recent feature Lakota, is in development with Traction Pictures in Los Angeles.
Casey has been working and training consistently as an actor for more than twenty years. He has studied at The University of London, Playhouse West in Los Angeles (3 year Meisner Intensive), Studio 4 with James Franco, and BGB Studio in Los Angeles, with legendary casting director/instructor Risa Bramon Garcia. Casey is proud to be Catapult’s resident headshot photographer and instructor for the class “Actors Becoming Creators” kicking off Fall 2024.
