This is a common question that’s asked here at Catapult, especially when there are multiple characters in the scene an actor needs to address.
First things first, we know to NEVER look directly into the camera unless it’s for a slate or specifically specified in the script (example: if you’re auditioning for a “Reporter” role). You always want to look just off to the side of the camera wherever the reader will be. Now what happens when there are more than two people in the scene? What if you have to address three or four other characters–WHERE DO YOU LOOK? Catapult Coach Vivi Chavez is here to help with this and to give you some tips in regards to eyelines during your auditions.
