HOW TO ACE THE DISNEY/NICK GENERAL AUDITION

This class teaches actors the specific tone + pace of Disney + Nick. Actors will learn to bring their most authentic self to each audition, how to transition into their scene + character, + how properly prep for Disney + Nick. John will share his own personal preparation routine that helped him and many of his students book major roles on Disney and Nick!

HOW TO BOOK THE JOB ON THE WHITE OF THE PAGE!
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH | 12:30-3:30PMMany young actors overlook the moments when they are not speaking. When an actor begins to find moments in their scene beyond the text, performances are more interesting + exciting to watch. This class will focus on creating compelling moments from what isn’t written, using the white of the page. In fact, the black ink on the page only accounts for ten percent of the page. In a real conversation, many stories go through our head. When an actor begins to understand all that they can apply to a scene, things get very interesting or HYSTERICAL or DANGEROUS!!! Watching great movie actors, you begin to realize it’s what they’re NOT SAYING that makes them so captivating.

REDIRECT: THE ART OF TAKING DIRECTION
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29TH | 4-7PMAn actor’s ability to take direction is inarguably one of the most important tools they can possess. Taking directorial notes + reinventing choices instantaneously – on set + during the audition process – separates good actors from the great ones. We are judged by how quickly we can adapt notes offered by the director. We must abandon the performance we previously conjured and reinvent our choices instantaneously. New lines are often drafted on set and delivered to actors who must, in turn, deliver them live before an audience. This course will teach actors how to implement this skill into their work immediately.

MASTERCLASS: COMEDIC SCENE STUDY FOR CAMERA
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH | 10AM-1PMJohn’s comedic “math” has helped many of his students enjoy long careers in television. In order to deliver the funny, a comedic scene must set up, reinforce, misdirect the audience while serving the text and character. Learning how to build and escalate the funny is essential for any actor entering the brave world of comedy. John’s comedic “math” has helped many of his students enjoy careers on television. Scenes will be sent in advance and students will work in pairs.
